The development
of the mainland as a domestic market for Hong Kong companies
has been a priority in recent years. The mainland's rapid
economic development, coupled with the recent implementation
of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (Cepa) has
added a new dimension to our efforts to assist Hong Kong SMEs
expand into the mainland market.
Initiatives
designed to raise awareness and understanding of the opportunities
available under Cepa will, therefore, be a major priority
for 2004/05.
The Pearl
River Delta (PRD) also remains a major focus. However, increased
attention will be directed on marketing Hong Kong products
and services in the Bohai region, the Yangtze River Delta
and other major distribution hubs.
We will
build on Hong Kong's trendsetting image in the mainland through
a series of 'Style
Hong Kong' showcase events in key cities. Targeting trade
and consumer buyers, these events will highlight Hong Kong's
role as a modern, cosmopolitan, fast-paced city that offers
products and services to match.
Further
mainland events and sector-to-sector partnerships will highlight
Hong Kong's service industries, and will supplement an upgraded
