Our priorities and new initiatives in 2020/21
Amid the challenging economic outlook, a clear priority for HKTDC in 2020/21 is to help Hong Kong businesses diversify into new markets while expanding penetration in mature markets. We will introduce new initiatives and new formats to facilitate their market access and intensify our overseas promotion in both emerging and mature economies.
We believe it is timely to reaffirm Hong Kong’s position as a commercial hub for global businesses. Leveraging the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) development, we aim to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a global deal-maker through enhanced business matching at our events and also through our year-round facilitation for Hong Kong businesses to take part in selected projects in the region. The ultimate goal is to help Hong Kong SMEs benefit from the BRI and GBA opportunities.
We will strengthen our focus on the digital economy and explore forging strategic partnership with major technology partners to provide more digital marketing and e-commerce solutions for Hong Kong SMEs while promoting Hong Kong as a venue for showcasing and testing new technology. We will innovate new approaches for Hong Kong businesses to synergistically participate in the four priority areas identified by the Government in biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, fintech and smart city in addition to areas such as connectivity and cloud, Internet of Things (IOT) and 5G.
We will adopt a “total solution” approach to assist our SMEs to achieve specific business aspirations through a structured programme in which participating SMEs can experiment with innovative ideas and leverage the resources, market intelligence, professional advice and technologies available to implement the initial steps of their transformation within a sandbox setting.
We will support more start-up activities in Hong Kong as we recognise that the energetic start-up culture and innovations will fuel economic growth. By bringing together government officials, business leaders, regulators, industrialists, technologists, investors and academics from around the world to use the Hong Kong platform, the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Hong Kong will continue to deepen.
