The Hong Kong - United States Business Council, previously known as the Hong Kong/United States and United States/Hong Kong Economic Co-operation Committees, is established in 1984. The HK – US Business Council comprising two senior-level committees in Hong Kong and the United States, aims to foster greater mutual understanding and facilitate stronger economic and trade ties between the two business communities.

Members of the Council are leaders of the industrial and service sectors in Hong Kong and USA, respectively. US members include the heads of US conglomerates and multi-nationals with a strong stake in the region through Hong Kong, as well as representatives of SMEs striving to develop business in Asia and keen to use Hong Kong as their base. Hong Kong members include the heads of major Hong Kong manufacturing, trading or service companies with an established interest in the USA and representatives of SMEs keen to explore partnerships with the USA in Asia.

Council meetings are held regularly either in Hong Kong or the United States to renew liaison between the Council members of the respective sections and to provide an opportunity to exchange views on topical or ongoing issues.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) acts as the Secretariat for the HK Section and the US Section.
