Kuehne & Nagel receives HKTDC award for export services

Kuehne & Nagel, one of the leading logistics companies worldwide in the sea-, airfreight and contract logistics businesses, was presented the prestigious 2001 Hong Kong Trade Development Council Services Award-Export Marketing at a gala dinner in December.

The Export Marketing Award is a sub-category of the Hong Kong Awards for Services first introduced in 1997 by HKTDC to recognize excellence in services export marketing and to heighten public awareness of the importance of effective marketing among Hong Kong's service providers. The services sector is considered vital to the economic well being of Hong Kong, and the sector now contributes 85% of Hong Kong's GDP and employs more than 85% of the territory's workforce.

The judging panel for the award, whose membership including senior government officials and businessmen, have recognized that Kuehne & Nagel has placed great emphasis on its people and contributed substantial resources on staff development, so as to enhance their competitiveness in providing high standards of service to the customers. Meanwhile, the company proactively conducts comprehensive market researches to generate customized solutions.

"We are very honored to have received the award, said Andy Weber, Managing Director of Kuehne & Nagel (Asia Pacific) Management Ltd. "Our goal and commitment is to create maximum value for our customers. Developing Kuehne & Nagel into a knowledge-based organization helps increasing our flexibility in reacting to today's fast-changing environment. It is our human resources asset that makes our services so unique. "We combine the flexibility to create customized solutions with the financial means and operational expertise needed to be a global logistics service provider in the region," continued Andy Weber.

Established in Hong Kong since 1965, Kuehne & Nagel in the Asia-Pacific region has been in the marketing of export services, with substantial growth in the company's export sales performance over the past decades.

In its continued investment in staff development, Kuehne & Nagel has recently participated in a vocational training scheme jointly organized by the German Chamber of Commerce and German Industry & Commerce. Theoretical and practical training are provided for the potential interns, with the objective of developing a talented pool of human resources for the company and for the industry in Hong Kong at large.

"Hong Kong should have great potentials to be developed into a premier logistics hub in Asia. I am confident that concerted efforts of the government and the private sector in cultivating local specialists should help to increase the overall competitiveness of Hong Kong among its major rivals in the region. Kuehne & Nagel, as a leading multinational logistics service provider with a firm establishment in Hong Kong, is well positioned to contribute our expertise to the prosperous developments of the logistics industry here," added Weber.

Kuehne & Nagel's value-added services, coupled with the integration of forwarding activities into total logistics solutions, has gained widespread market acceptance. In the past few years, Kuehne & Nagel in the Asia-Pacific region has successfully strengthened its presence in Mainland China, the Indian subcontinents and Vietnam. In terms of market segments, it has expanded into the aviation, telecommunications, semi-conductor, health and pharmaceutical, and automotive markets.
