P&O Nedlloyd orders US$84mn new containers

P&O Nedlloyd has placed new orders for general purpose and reefer containers, worth US$ 84M in total. The new containers will replace older equipment and expiring leases. P&O Nedlloyd is one of the world兼s largest container shipping lines, with 114 owned and chartered vessels, and in excess of 600,000 of owned and leased containers.

A total of 53,000TEU of general purpose containers, consisting of a mixture of 20ft, 40ft and 40ft high cube containers have been ordered from China International Marine Containers Group (CIMC), Hong Kong and CIVET/KSCF, Hong Kong. All of these containers will be built in China and delivered to P&O Nedlloyd from March 2000 onwards.

Also on order are 1,000 40ft-high cube reefers to be built by Hyundai in Korea. These reefer containers will be equipped with the latest Carrier 69NT-40 refrigeration systems and will be ready for use in March 2000.
