Dimethylfumarate (DMF) : A Major Public Health Problem
Because of serious
allergic reactions to DMF in France and in other European
countries, a decree has been published by DGCCRF (French
Authority) on 5th of December 2008 to stop the import
of shoes and armchairs/sofas with this substance for
1 year at least.
Any products found
with DMF will be withdrawn from French Market.
What is DMF?
Kindly be informed,
DMF is a stable compound classified as irritating and
even harmful for the skin, eyes, mucous membranes and
upper respiratory tracts, by simple contact, by inhalation
or by ingestion. This chemical substance is a biocide
which does not belong to the biocides list authorised
by the European Union in N°1451/2007 Standard (EC).
So it is prohibited on the European Union Market.
DMF has been found
to be a sensitizer at even very low concentrations,
producing extensive, pronounced eczema.
This substance which
is not visible by the eye and very volatile can be found
in anti-humidity sachets but also directly on products
via contamination or pulverizing.
