The First Revision of GB/T 8685 Textile-Care
National Textile Base Standard Technical
Sub-committee discussed and voted for revision of GB/T 8685 in the Huangshan
annual technical meeting in April 2008. The intention of this revision
is to have Chinese care label international and close to actual practice
in China, ultimately to make the standard more practical.
What is care label?
Care label is intended to guide consumer or commercial cleaner on how
to care their textile products or apparels so as to keep their original
appearance and use at maximum after several washes or professional clean,
which may include care method, washing temperature, dry method, whether
to iron or not and iron temperature as well.
Why should be labeled?
The impact on post-performance of textile products by daily care can not
be disregarded. The care methods and maintenance should vary from products'
style to style, character to character. If improper care instruction is
labeled, it is every possible to incur irreversible damage to textile
products. Therefore, the importance of proper care label is to avoid wrong
operation from consumer and meantime protect the seller or manufacturer's
The mandatory standard GB 5296.4 Instructions
for use of products of consumer interest-Instruction for use of textile
& apparel enacted, further elevate the importance and necessity of
this standard implementation.
Which kinds of products should
be subjected to this standard?
All textile products offered to final consumers, which should consist
of at least 80% textile fibers.
What are the main requirements
of care label?
- Care label should be permanently
attached on products, easy to read and recognize.
- The label should be kept readable
throughout the whole useful life of products.
- The care information should be
expressed mainly by symbols prescribed in this standard. And its sequence
should follow the order of washing, bleach, dry, iron and professional
