Taiwan Prohibits the use of certain
Phthalates
The Bureau of Standards, Metrology
and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan has issued a new "Direction"
to restrict the use of phthalates in toys and children products.
According to the "Direction",
on or after July 1, 2008, no person or entity shall manufacture, sell,
or distribute in commerce any toy or children product in Taiwan that contains
the following phthalates individually or in combination of more than 0.1%
by weight:
- di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
- dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
- diisononyl phthalate (DINP)
- diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP)
- di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP)
Notes:
For the purpose of this
"Direction", toy or children product means any product
or material designed or clearly intended for use or play by children under
14 years of age.
