The 42nd Plenary session of Hong Kong-Japan and Japan-Hong Kong Business Co-operation Committees was held in Hong Kong on 28 November 2024. Co-chaired by Tan Sri Dato’ David Chiu, Executive Director, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Far East Consortium International Limited, and Mr Takeshi Kunibe, Chairman of the Board, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. and Mr Junichiro Ikeda, Director, Chairman of the Board, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., a total of 30 participants from Hong Kong and Japan including HKTDC Executive Director Ms Margaret Fong attended.

The plenary agenda highlighted topics on opportunities created by the silver economy, digital transformation, aviation logistics and supply chain, and green sustainability.

Guest speakers from Hong Kong shared informative and inspiring views on the above topics. They are Ms Irina Fan, Director of Research, HKTDC (Hong Kong macroeconomic updates); Dr Helen Chan, Founder and CEO, Vita Green Group Limited (silver economy and digital transformation); Mr Tom Owen, Director Cargo, Cathay Cargo (aviation logistics and supply chain); Mr Johnny Yu, Head of Sustainability and Advisor to Chairman, Henderson Land Development Company Limited (green sustainability). Members appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with business contacts from Hong Kong and Japan. This was the first Hong Kong inbound Plenary Session since 2019 due to the pandemic in previous years.

The Honourable Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region attended the Keynote Luncheon and delivered a speech. He shared about Hong Kong’s latest developments as a leading international financial services centre with a strong legal framework, capital-friendly policies, and strategic market connectivity.
