The 20th Plenary Session of Hong Kong-Europe Business Council was held in London on 26 September 2024. Co-chaired by Mr Hans Michael Jebsen, Chairman of Jebsen Group, and Dr Axel P. Lehmann, Executive in Residence, International Institute for Management Development (IMD); Affiliate Professor, University of St Gallen (HSG); Former Chairman of the Board of Directors, Credit Suisse Group AG, the 20th Plenary Session of Hong Kong-Europe Business Council took place in London, United Kingdom on 26 September 2024. The plenary session was attended by 12 European delegates and 19 Hong Kong delegates, including HKTDC Chairman Dr Peter Lam and Executive Director Ms Margaret Fong. Discussions covered a wide range of topics such as Europe-China trade relations, green transition in Europe, business opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong's role as a "super-connector," and the healthcare ecosystem in Hong Kong. The Hon Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, delivered keynote remarks at the plenary session. At the plenary luncheon, Dr Keyu Jin, Associate Professor of Economics at The London School of Economics and Political Science delivered an insightful presentation on “The New China Playbook”. Both sides appreciated the opportunity to reconnect in person since the last plenary session in 2019 and found the dialogue fruitful, laying the groundwork for more extensive discussions on future collaboration. In addition to the plenary session, Mr Hans Michael Jebsen led the Hong Kong delegation on visits to Berry Bros. & Rudd, Microsoft AI Lab, Victoria and Albert Museum and Wellcome Trust to gain insights into the latest developments across various sectors. The delegation also joined a dinner hosted by HSBC together with the European members, where they exchanged views on global trade developments.
