Sharpen HKTDC’s capabilities to serve and nurture a new breed of SMEs

To reinforce the entrepreneurial spirit in Hong Kong, HKTDC will launch a comprehensive start-up programme to nurture a new breed of SMEs. We will continue to revamp our customer database infrastructure to sharpen our capabilities in assisting Hong Kong companies target the right customers in our business matching activities. We will also use new marketing tools and social media channels to promote our activities and services to reach out to a new pool of customers. We will continue to build awareness of HKTDC among SMEs through active outreach programmes.

Key strategies and major initiatives

Develop a comprehensive SME start-up programme to nurture a new breed of SMEs

Set up a new “Start a Business" pavilion at World SME Expo to provide useful information on ways to explore new business opportunities

Stage franchising zones at Entrepreneur Day to help SMEs explore business opportunities

Reposition HKTDC Business InfoCentre as the SME Centre offering business support services

Organise seminars and workshops on practical trade-related topics, year-round business matching and networking activities

Offer "cubic showcase + online" packages as a cost-effective format to participate in HKTDC exhibitions and online sourcing platform

Roll out blogs to enable SMEs to share practical business tips with bloggers from banking, testing, inspection and certification industry

Assist SMEs to relocate their manufacturing base beyond the PRD

Work with relevant industry associations to organise exploratory missions to alternative production bases in mainland provinces such as Guangxi, Hunan and Jiangxi as well as Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Bangladesh and Indonesia

Organise a series of seminars to help familiarise Hong Kong companies with alternative production bases

Conduct a series of studies on the investment environment of potential relocation destinations on the mainland and overseas

Build and sharpen HKTDC's capabilities through database development and facilitate enhanced business matching

Revamp HKTDC’s customer database infrastructure to better support our promotional initiatives, and improve direct marketing efficiency and effectiveness

Establish data governance structure and policies, standardise data definition, refine business processes with staff education and training to best utilise the new customer database

Enrich contacts in distribution network, licensee / franchisee business for Asia and emerging markets

Achieve healthy customer database growth in mature markets with expansion in contacts in branding, licensing, franchising, technology / environmental industries

Build closer partnership with SMEs through active outreach programmes

Conduct regular outreach events to understand SME’s needs and requirements

Advance our successful programmes such as the HKTDC Trade Ambassador Programme to build public awareness and understanding of HKTDC’s work

Extend our corporate marketing campaign to promote our "less exposed" services and events in Hong Kong

Strengthen HKTDC’s corporate governance and commitment to corporate social responsibility

Work with the Council’s newly established independent Audit Committee to review and reinforce HKTDC’s corporate governance

Commit to the standards set out in ISO 26000 for Corporate Social Responsibility to set a good example to Hong Kong SMEs
