The warring washing machines

Competition in the washing machine market has intensified in 2008, with brand elimination being the key note in market competition. That's according to an expert from a China home appliance market study group.

Brands that fall short of the top 20 in the market may face elimination this year, says Lu Renbo in his study. It's estimated that the rate of elimination may reach between 40% and 50%.........

Japanese toy makers bring non-China production into play

The Chinese mainland is losing some of its lustre to several large Japanese toy makers. Takara Tomy, the top toy maker, is developing a new production line in Vietnam, with the intention of transferring its miniature toy car production there within three years.

Similarly, Japanese majors Bandai and Epoch are expanding their production capacity in Thailand.........

Building materials get "convenience" treatment

At building materials convenience stores, consumers can buy paints and glue in small containers. It's possible to return unused materials after decorating the home, and call for on-site services to change a light bulb or when the drain is blocked. A new culture of home building materials consumption has emerged.

Diyi Building Materials Convenience Store opens for business next month. Such stores are mostly located in big residential developments or around building materials hypermarkets.........
