The Customs Courts Act of 1980 established the Court of International Trade (CIT) within the judicial branch to deal with cases involving international trade and customs issues. Most of the cases undertaken by CIT involve the classification and valuation of imported merchandise, customs duties and unfair import practices by trading partners. Appeals from final decisions of the court may be taken to the Court of Appeal for the Federal Circuit and, ultimately, to the Supreme Court.
