27 November 2008 -
Seven major awards were presented at the Logistics Awards Hong Kong 2008 dinner,
which took place this evening at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
"Saluting Logistics
Excellence" was once again the theme of the annual Logistics Awards. Initiated
in 2005, the awards recognise the achievements of outstanding service providers
and encourage value-added services among industry players.
Attending this evening's
ceremony were Francis Ho, Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport),
and Alan Wong, Deputy Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development
Council (HKTDC).
Speaking at the presentation
dinner, Mr Wong noted that the HKTDC had organised a number of logistics missions
over the past year, exploring business opportunities in the Chinese mainland,
the United States, Vietnam and Thailand. In the coming year, he said, "we
will continue our focus on the Chinese mainland and Southeast Asia, turning
as well to Taiwan and the Middle East."
The logistics industry is
considered one of Hong Kong's four economic pillars. Hong Kong's total port
cargo throughput in the first half of 2008 reached 130.8 million tonnes, 10
per cent up over the same period last year.
Organisers of Logistics
Awards 2008 were: the HKTDC, the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council, the
Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Association
of Freight Forwarding and Logistics, the Hong Kong Logistics Association and
