Delegations from the United States and the United Kingdom will be visiting Hong
Kong this week to explore the business opportunities for venture capital and
technology financing in Hong Kong.
The delegations comprising venture capitalists and financiers from 10 US companies
and four UK companies are organised by the Trade Development Council in parallel
with the Hong Kong Information Infrastructure Expo & Conference running from
March 16 to 19.
Besides attending the Expo, the delegations will be briefed by the Acting Secretary
for Information Technology & Broadcasting of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Ms.
Eva Cheng on the latest developments of information technology (IT) in Hong Kong
and the Government's IT initiatives.
During their stay in Hong Kong, they will meet with potential partners such as
research institutes, universities, technology incubators or start-up companies, and
small and medium-enterprises with IT products ready for commercialisation to
discuss the possibilities of business co-operation in venture capital and technology
financing.
Three delegates from the US including Partner of Accel Partners, Mr. Joe Schoendorf;
Managing Director of First Analysis Corp, Mr. Clement Erbamann; and Chairman &
CEO of Edelson Technology Partners, Mr. Harry Edelson will speak at a series of fora
on venture capital and technology financing. Their presentations will focus on how to
manage returns on investments, raise funds, select portfolio companies and explore
the effectiveness of strategic alliances.
The fora on venture capital and technology financing will let Hong Kong IT
companies understand the opportunities in commercialising IT projects, particularly
through successful case studies, and learn the US experience in exploiting venture
capital financing to help IT companies expand their businesses.
These fora, to be held on March 17 in conjunction with the Hong Kong Information
Infrastructure Expo & Conference, are organised by the TDC and co-organised with
Hong Kong Information Technology Federation, Hong Kong Venture Capital
Association, and Information Technology Services Department of the Hong Kong
SAR Government.
Major speakers from Hong Kong include Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Venture
Capital Association Ltd., Mr. Richard Roque; Co-founder and Executive Director of
Asiatech Ventures, Mr. Hanson Cheah; Chief Executive Officer of ecVision, Mr.
Thomas Ng; and Chief Operating Officer of Chinadotcom Corporation, Mr. Peter
Hamilton.
