Xiamen International Container Terminals (XICT) celebrated the launch of K-Line's Northwest America Service (PNW) with the arrival of the MV Greenwich Bridge. PNW marks the first trans-ocean service to directly connect Xiamen with Canada.
K-Line has deployed five 5,600-TEU vessels for this weekly service, which calls at XICT on Tuesday and runs on a port rotation of Xiamen, Hong Kong, Yantian, Shanghai, Nagoya, Tokyo, Tacoma, Vancouver, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe and Xiamen.
"We are delighted by K-Line's decision to include XICT to the PNW service, as it eliminates the need for further transshipment at other ports, thus enhances the supply chain efficiency between the routes of Southeast China and North America," said Raymond Chan, General Manager of XICT.
XICT currently operates 12 trans-ocean services which cover Australia, Europe, the Mediterranean and the West Coast of North America and they handle over 50% of Xiamen port's trans-ocean container traffic.
XICT is a joint venture between Hutchison Delta Ports (HDP) and Xiamen Haicang Port Co. XICT is a coastal port situated at Haicang in the Xiamen Special Economic Zone of Fujian, it has been in operation since 1997 and is part of the HDP network, currently comprising three coastal and three river ports in Southern China.
