Swire switches NZ agent

The Swire Group is continuing the streamlining of its New Zealand-based activities with the transfer of local agency representation to a part-owned subsidiary.

Responsibility for Swire Shipping's Chief Container Service, operating in the trans-Tasman and Micronesian trades, has rested with Pacific Forum Line and Owens Group subsidiary Seatrans since the services began in 1999.

From mid-April this will shift to Quadrant Pacific Ltd, whose leading principal is Tasman Orient Line (jointly owned by Swire and Hamburg's Christian Ahrenkiel) with the agency itself jointly owned by those companies and Adsteam Marine.

Swire Shipping Agencies' Australian representation of PFL is understood to be unaffected by the NZ moves, and PFL will continue its NZ/Papua New Guinea service using slots on CCS vessels. ci-online (www.ci-online.co.uk)
