Macair Cargo selected GSA for Belgian freighter operations

Macair Cargo has won a contract to act as the exclusive general sales agent in the UK and Ireland for Belgian freighter operator, Demavia Airlines.

Demavia operates scheduled DC-8 all-cargo services from Liege to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi. Each flight offers 40 tonnes of capacity.

Macair will generate cargo for Demavia from the UK freight forwarding community and provide a reception point at Heathrow, a full pallet and container build service and security screening. It will also organise secure road transport services to Belgium to connect with the airlines flight departures.

"We were successful in winning this important new contract because of the financial results we achieve for our airline customers and our ability to provide a full in-house handling and trucking service," said Jack McLelland, managing director of Macair Cargo.

Demavia is an established airline with an extremely reliable freighter schedule. In addition to its direct cargo services from Liege, it also offers onward destinations via Kinshasa, including Mbuji-Mayi, Kananga and Mbandaka. We have already attracted a high level of bookings from freight forwarding companies in the UK and we expect this to grow on the strength of our high profile sales and marketing campaign.

Macair has already generated shipments of relief goods, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, IT equipment and personal effects for Demavia.

Demavia operates three times a week to Kinshasha on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It also operates from Liege to Kigali and Bujumbura every Tuesday. The close-off time for UK originating cargo is 1200 on the day before each flight departs.

In addition, every Wednesday, Demavia operates a DC-8F from Manston Airport in the UK to Lubumbasi.
