San Francisco Phthalates Ordinance
Suspended
Subsequent to the City Council's earlier
proposal (refer to Intertek News Update CN-111) to amend the Phthalates
Ordinance No.86-07 under the San Francisco Health Code (Sparkle Vol. 353),
the proposed amendment has been passed therefore the City and County of
San Francisco will only follow the California state requirements of phthalates
(AB 1108 approved on October 14, 2007).
A new Section 34.10 is added into
the San Francisco Health Code to suspend:
- Section 34.4 Prohibiting the sale
of toys, child care products and child feeding products made with phthalates;
and
- Section 34.6 Implementation and
Enforcement.
According to the amended Ordinance,
the Department of Public Health in consultation with the Department of
the Environment shall continue to test toys, child care products and child
feeding products for phthalates and publicize the results of those tests,
as well as take any other appropriate actions.
