Ladies' BootsMade For Walking
As usual, Hong Kong footwear manufacturers have got every design covered when it comes to producing ladies' boots that are stylish, eye-catching and comfortable. Take Abound Industrial Development Co, which produces 50,000 pairs of shoes and boots per month for its major markets in Europe, the US and Australia. Abound sources PU, PVC, EVA and leather from the mainland for processing into ultra-stylish footwear at its 8,000-square-metre factory in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland that employs 400 workers. "Our boots are becoming more popular no matter what the season," says senior merchandiser Cheng Raiz, adding that customers prefer porous materials for spring while crocodile and animal skins continue to be popular year-round. "The fashion has been for pointed toes, although we're now seeing a shift towards a rounder toe and a lower heel." Abound, which has its own Sesso and Miss M brand names, produces approximately 50,000 pairs of footwear a month, with boots comprising a steadily increasing 25% of that total. Boot prices range from US$4-20 per pair FOB Hong Kong or Shenzhen for minimum orders of 2,000 pairs per style delivered 45-60 days after order confirmation. Equally proficient in terms of boot production is Conasia Industries (HK) Ltd, which also offers a wide range of sandals, slippers and school shoes in classic and contemporary designs for women and children, as well as a range of infant footwear. "Our strongest markets are in Europe and the US," says merchandiser Bobby Chan, "but we also have customers in South Africa and the Middle East and are looking to expand our markets around the world." The firm's 10,000-square-metre factory in Dongguan has two production lines manned by 500 workers, providing a maximum output of 100,000 pairs per month. "This capacity, and more than 25 years' of experience, ensures we are able to meet customers' demands," Chan claims. Conasia uses PU, patent PU and microfibre sourced from the mainland in its boots, which are available in minimum orders of 1,200 pairs per style, per colour. They cost US$3.00-6.50 per pair FOB Hong Kong or Shenzhen, and can be delivered 40-45 days after order confirmation. Another company with major markets in Europe and the US is Sunbo (HK) Ltd, which manufactures for big names such as Fila, Nafnaf, Benetton Kids and Skechers and also boasts its own Angie Girl brand. "We use the cemented construction method for many of our shoes, allowing for lightness and flexibility," says chairman Angela Chan. "It's very successful and customers are pleased with it." Each month some 250 workers produce 50,000-80,000 pairs of footwear at Sunbo's 5,000-square-metre factory in Shenzhen, with boots accounting for 30% of overall production. "We use a special machine to produce footwear with pointed toes, which are very popular right now," Chan observes. Sunbo employs a wide range of materials in its boots, including lambskin, leather, canvas and satin as well as PU. "We source top quality PU from Taiwan, although the mainland is producing some very good quality PU nowadays," adds Chan. Depending on materials, prices range from US$2-25 per pair FOB Hong Kong or Shenzhen for minimum orders of 1,200 pairs per style delivered 60 days after order confirmation. Suneast Industrial Ltd also employs a wide range of materials in its lines, but focuses on winter fabrics such as corduroy and terry as well as suede and nubuck. "We produce quality casual boots with an emphasis on comfort and warmth that appeal to customers worldwide, but are especially popular with our European clients," merchandiser Shirley Chan maintains. Suneast produces a massive 1.2 million pairs of footwear a month during the December to May high season, with boots accounting for 0.3% of that amount. These are manufactured by 2,500 workers at two factories in Dongguan Province, which cover 46,000 square metres and boast 10 production lines for maximum efficiency. "Although we do some in-house design, most of our customers research their own markets and we source the fabrics for them," Chan explains. "We have an efficient sample room with some samples being made within one or two days." Suneast's prices range from US$2.50-15.00 per pair FOB Hong Kong or Shenzhen for minimum orders of 1,000 pairs per style delivered 30-45 days after order confirmation. Given this extensive and ever-expanding range of top quality products, Hong Kong footwear manufacturers are clearly putting their best foot forward when it comes to ladies' boots.
