Casual shoes are so comfortable these days that men around the world are wearing them for virtually every occasion. Needless to say, Hong Kong shoe manufacturers excel at producing casual shoes in all shapes, styles and materials.
Technically advanced methods in factories on the Chinese mainland result in very competitive prices, while the design skills of companies such as Evermax Industrial Ltd produce elegant casuals popular in almost all markets.
"Our sports shoes are selling well in Europe and the US, despite competition from international companies," notes Evermax manager Sarah Li, adding, "we also sell to South America and South Africa."
Li explains that most of Evermax's business is OEM and the company manufactures to customers' designs. "We have acquired a reputation for good quality and a very competitive price."
She adds that five-year-old Evermax manufactures a wide range of shoes for men, women and children, producing 180,000 pairs a month at a factory in Fujian Province on the Chinese mainland.
"We are a small company so we do not seriously compete with multinational Trms but our quality is equal and our prices much lower," she claims. "We can guarantee delivery within one month of order confirmation."
Similar in scale, Yue Mao (HK) Ltd manufactures 100,000 pairs of sports and casual shoes a month at a 10,000-square-metre factory on the mainland that employs 1,000 workers.
"We can deliver within a very short time," adds manager Paul Lee, noting "we have received a Provincial Advanced Enterprise award from the mainland government commending us for helping the economy."
Lee discloses that Yue Mao¦s range of quality shoes includes soaters, athletic, leisure, wheel and sports shoes, particularly football. "We use the Tnest, strongest leather as well as cloth and canvas," he explains. "Our materials are obtained from Taiwan and the mainland."
The three-year-old company can deliver minimum orders of 300 pairs to major markets in the US, Europe and Japan 20 days after order conTrmation, and also has its own ZHD and Borem brands.
Leopard Industrial Ltd, on the other hand, Tnds that men want brightly coloured sports shoes rather than brands these days. "Our customers often ask us to make them in colours as vibrant as shocking pink, orange and coral pink," says manager Anndy Lai.
The seven-year-old company uses Tne leather and suede in its shoes as well as canvas, PU and nylon. "Our factory in Fujian Province has 500 workers overseen by supervisors from Hong Kong," Lai adds. "We can deliver a minimum order of 3,000 pairs within 30-40 days."
Leopard takes pains to exert strict quality control and maintain competitive pricing, with FOB Hong Kong prices that range between US$4-7 ensuring continuing popularity in markets as diverse as Europe, the US and South America.
One company that fervently believes in the power of the brand is Road Mate Int'l Ltd, which produces its own Road Mate label and is one of the largest shoe manufacturers on the mainland.
"We produce 12 million pairs a year," proclaims director William Gan. "Our leather and suede casuals are well known in Asia and we have worldwide markets."
Road Mate has four ISO 9000-certiTed factories in Zhong Shan on the mainland that employ 8,000 workers who use the Tnest nappa leather, nubuck and suede. "Our workmanship is of the highest quality," Gan claims. "A team of designers creates our styles according to international trends."
However, Gan adds that Road Mate also manufactures customer designs, and makes strong, durable industrial shoes with safety features such as steel toe caps and built-in protection.
Road Mate shoes and safety footwear sell on the mainland and in the Middle East and the US. "FOB Hong Kong prices vary depending on the type of shoe and the quantity, but are normally in the US$12-15 range," adds Gan.
So when it comes to shoes with deTnite appeal, it's worth hotfooting it to Hong Kong to check out the huge range of attractive, competitively priced men's casual footwear.
