TidyTies

The Battery With A Difference

Tidy Ties

It is a familiar sight. In the rush to get to work in the mornings, the coat hanger holding all the ties and silk scarves empties itself onto the bedroom floor as it is pulled out of the wardrobe. To simplify the busy office worker's morning, Well Mark Int'l Ltd has launched the Battery Powered Tie Rack, a device to make sure that morning rushes need not foreshadow an evening spent tidying up the closet.

Holding up to 72 scarves or ties, and with four additional hooks for belts, the tie rack is easily mounted onto a wardrobe rod, shelf or other solid closet fixture. To mount, slide the mounting bracket out of the motorised device, affix the rack under the housing using hooks and screws provided, then replace the rod in the bracket. The screws and hooks ensure that whatever the size or shape of the mounting surface, it will be a secure fit.

Once the tie rack is secure, press the control bar to move the rack underneath to the left or right and to stop when the desired cravat comes into view. A light is also attached, which allows for better viewing inside a dark closet.

The unit is powered by four "C"-size alkaline batteries, which are included in the package. Available for North America, Europe and Southeast Asia, the rack is intended for consumer sale in department stores and through direct mail marketing. Delivery takes 2-4 weeks and the company requires a minimum order size of 120 units. The unit price is US$16-20 FOB Hong Kong.

The Battery With A Difference

From Daka Development Ltd comes a battery with a difference. The company, specialising in radios and cellular accessories, has produced a device for those who are on the go all the time. The Multi-feature Cellular Battery with Voice Memo and Emergency Light is mainly aimed at those with cellular phones, but according to Pat Mah, managing director of Daka, anyone can use it. "The difference is that it is a cellular battery with a lot of different features. This makes it very practical," Mah states.

For instance, there is a voice recording feature that allows the user to leave reminder messages. "It replaces the note-pad and pen," comments Mah. "It makes it very convenient to use in the car." In addition to the voice recorder, there is an emergency light. "This can also be used in the car when it is dark or as an emergency light," Mah continues.

The battery itself works like a normal battery except for its additional features. It is aimed at cellular phone users, specifically for them to carry around so that they can recharge their phones at any time and in any location. But, as Mah points out, "Anyone is really a potential customer -- anyone who is on the go or who needs reminders." Other applications for the battery include recharging radios and use in alarm systems, calculators and anything else that requires power that is far from a mains electricity source.

The major markets for the battery are the US, Canada, the UK and Germany and the main sales outlets are cellular phone accessory shops and mail order firms. The unit price works out at approximately US$19.50 FOB Hong Kong, while delivery takes 30-45 days, depending on the size of the order. Daka requires a minimum order quantity of 500 units.
