Lock Up Your Cards

Seeing Is Believing

Lock Up Your Cards

Credit card thieves are used to working within a very limited time period before the credit cards are discovered missing by the owner and cancelled. From Global Inventions Ltd comes a device that will prevent thieves from succeeding even if the stolen credit cards are not reported missing immediately. Aimed at anyone who carries credit cards, the Cardsafe is designed to make the user less of a target for thieves, as well as protect his credit cards.

The Cardsafe is a slim and elegant case that weighs less than 80 grams and locks up to five cards with a combination lock. Made of metal and acrylic, it provides durable protection for the cards. Its slim shape enables the carrier to place it safely in a back pocket, purse or briefcase without it being too noticeable.

Anil Vora, managing director of Global, remarks, "Credit card fraud is a big problem in the West ... the Cardsafe enables the credit card holder to have two safety factors. First, the Cardsafe has its own combination lock and second, if the case is broken into, fluid will automatically be sprayed onto the cards, making fraud virtually impossible." The combination lock has a choice of more than 4,000 combinations, while the fluid Vora describes is a red dye contained in a small area of the Cardsafe.

The Cardsafe is available from mail order outlets and department stores throughout the US, UK, Germany, Italy and Japan. Delivery takes up to 45 days and the minimum order size is 1,200 pieces. The trade price is US$9.95 FOB Hong Kong.

Seeing Is Believing

A neat, pocket-sized device from Great Wall (Optical) Plastic Works Ltd could become every child's companion during school and holiday outings. It is the Plastic Pocket Tele-microscope. It comes in a small case and has two parts, the microscope being the main part of the device with the power to see up to 50 times closer. Attach the second half, the adaptor, to the microscope and it transforms into a telescope with eight times magnification.

Lawrence Chan, general manager of Great Wall, comments, "It will be useful for students and for those who are in organisations such as the Cub Scouts. They will be able to learn about the countryside. For instance, they can look at different trees and birds with the binocular, then take the adaptor off and the user has the ability to look at insects through the microscope. It can also be used for younger children as an educational toy."

Made out of acrylic and ABS, the tele-microscope is strong and durable. Putting it together and taking it apart is very simple as the adaptor fits neatly into a transparent nib called the sunbeam. It is this sunbeam that holds the two pieces securely together. To one side is a focusing wheel that enables the user to zoom in with the magnifier and ensure a clear picture with the telescope.

The minimum order quantity accepted is HK$10,000 worth and delivery takes 30-45 days depending on the order size. Great Wall sells directly to end users as well as various department stores and Hong Kong-based exporters. The major markets for the tele-microscope are the US, Germany, the UK, France and Japan. The price for one set, including the magnifier and telescope adaptor in a pouch, is US$1.77 FOB Hong Kong.
