The Chief Secretary, Mr Donald Tsang, was guest of honour at the 25th Plenary Session of the Hong Kong/Japan and Japan/Hong Kong Business Co-operation Committees in Tokyo today (25th November, Monday).

Mr Tsang addressed the Plenary of Japanese and Hong Kong business leaders on particular advantages arising for Japanese manufacturers and exporters in the Pearl River Delta, in combination with Hong Kong.

At the Plenary, the Chairman of the Hong Kong/Japan Business Co-operation Committee, Dr Raymond Ch'ien, launched a comprehensive business guidebook published in Japanese on Hong Kong as Japan's partner and platform for China.

Jointly produced by the HK/JBCC and the Trade Development Council, the 172-page guidebook explains the Hong Kong-PRD advantage in detail.

It also provides practical information on how Japanese companies can use the Hong Kong-PRDcombination competitively and profitably for producing, sourcing and selling in China.

Copies of the book will be distributed to more than 1,000 Japanese executives attending Hong Kong business conferences in Tokyo, Fukuoka and Osaka, coinciding with the Chief Secretary's visit to Japan this week and the 25th Plenary session. Altogether, 20,000 copies of the guidebook will be distributed to targeted Japanese firms.

The Hong Kong/Japan and Japan/Hong Kong Business Co-operation Committees were established in 1979 to promote closer economic ties and understanding between the business communities of Hong Kong and Japan. The secretariat to the Hong Kong Committee is the Trade Development Council. The Japan Committee is served by the Japan Business Federation (formerly known as the Keidanren)
