STRONG HONG KONG PRESENCE AT AFM

The strong Hong Kong presence will be highlighted at the American Film Market 2009 (AFM), which will kick off on 4 November, 2009 in Los Angeles. Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is setting up a promotional booth at the fairground. You are very much welcome to visit us at 5/F Atrium, Santa Monica Loews Hotel (opposite to the Buyers Lounge) for any details of Hong Kong film industry.

In addition, to facilitate networking and exploring business opportunities with international industry players, a Hong Kong Cocktail Reception will be organised on the 3rd day of AFM. The details are as follows:

SUCCESSFUL SYMPOSIUM & RECEPTION AT TIFFCOM

Hong Kong and Japan have long been strategic partners on the film and entertainment industry. Taking the opportunity of TIFFCOM 2009, the affiliated market of Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) held at Roppongi Hills in October, HKTDC and UNIJAPAN co-organised a series of activities with the support of the Japan Business Co-operation Committee (JBCC), to further promote co-production and co-venture opportunities between the two economies.

Around 140 guests joined the ¡§Japan-Hong Kong Content Collaboration Symposium¡¨ on the afternoon of 20 October 2009. The event was kicked off by the opening remarks by Ms. Shigemi Furuta, Director of Japan, HKTDC and Mr. Toshiyuki Takei, Deputy Director-General for IT Strategy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Afterwards, industry experts including Ms. Lorna Tee, General Manager of Irresistible Films, Mr. Fred Wang, Chairman of Salon Films (H.K.) Ltd., and Mr. Hiroyuki Seshita, Executive Director of Casio Entertainment shared their insights on topics namely ¡§Partnership with Hong Kong Companies for Tapping into China Market¡¨ and ¡§Case Study: Collaboration between Casio Entertainment and Salon Films on Production¡¨. The symposium was moderated by Mr. Yoshio Kakeo, Executive Director, Kinema Junposha Co., Ltd.

Immediately following the symposium was a cocktail reception to celebrate ¡§100 Years of Hong Kong Cinema¡¨. Attended by about 240 top-notched industry players, the reception was hosted by Mr. Jack So, Chairman of HKTDC and Hong Kong Film Development Council (HKFDC) with our honorable guests included Mr. Junichi Sakomoto, Vice Chairman of CoFesta Organising Committee, Mr. Tom Yoda, Chairman of Tokyo International Film Festival, and Mr. Hiroyuki Seshita, Executive Director of Casio Entertainment Co., Ltd, etc.

UPDATES ON HAF PROJECTS

HAF projects are once again being recognized in international film festivals! BAK-JWI (aka Thirst) by PARK Chan-wook has won the NETPAC Award in Pusan International Film Festival 2009 while Like a Dream by Clara LAW (HAF 2003 project), received 10 award nominations in the 46th Golden Horse Awards. Hong Kong renowned actress WAI Ying-hung is also nominated for the Best Supporting Actress with her great performance in At the End of Day Break by HO Yuhang. Other HAF alumni including Mother by BONG Joon-ho, Karaoke by Chris CHONG Chan-fui, as well as Kinatay and Service by Brillante MENDOZA, have also been selected to be shown in Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival 2009.
