The Hon JOHN TSANG,JP TO OFFICIATE ENTERTAINMENT EXPO HONG KONG

Making a spectacular evening even more spectacular, The Hon John Tsang Chun-wah, JP, Financial Secretary of HKSAR, has agreed to be the officiating guest for the Entertainment Expo Hong Kong Gala Opening and the Asian Film Awards, which will run from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on 23 March 2009 at the Grand Hall of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Everyone in Hong Kong will be able to enjoy the star-studded extravaganza by viewing the broadcast on the TVB Pearl channel on 24 March 2009.


PRESS CONFERENCE MARKS SUCCESSFUL RETURN OF ENTERTAINMENT EXPO HONG KONG

To welcome the return of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong (23 March to 19 April 2009) in its fifth edition, a glamorous press conference was held on 10 February 2009 with a number of celebrated industry leaders and government officials as the officiating guests, including Ms. Rita Lau, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, the guests of honour, and Mr. Tony Leung, Hong Kong Entertainment Ambassador etc. During the press conference, the organizers of the nine major events of the Expo introduced this year¡¦s special programmes and highlights to around 100 journalists, representatives of media companies and supporting organizations. HAF 2009 FILMMAKERS INTERVIEWS

The 7th HAF features directors from 11 territories, including:

  • Brillante MENDOZA (The Philippines), whose project Serbis (HAF 2008) secured funding at the HAF 2007 and went into competition at Cannes in May 2008.
  • NING Hao (Chinese Mainland), whose Crazy Stone was China¡¦s greatest surprise hit in 2006. His much anticipated Crazy Racer, an HAF 2005 project, was released over the past Chinese New Year and achieved huge box office success.
  • WEI Te-sheng (Taiwan), emerging major-league director of the box office record-breaking film Cape No.7 (2008).
  • KAWASE Naomi (Japan), whose Suzaku (1997), made her the youngest winner of the Camera d¡¦Or Award in the history of the Cannes Film Festival. Her latest film Mourning Forest (2007) was awarded the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2007.
