REMARKABLE PAVILION & RECEPTION AT AFM TO PROMOTE HONG KONG FILMS

The American Film Market 2008 (AFM) in Los Angeles has just kicked off on 5th November, 2008. This year, there will be 8 Hong Kong companies exhibiting there until 12th November.

In addition to the screening of a number of Hong Kong films, the strong Hong Kong presence at AFM is also highlighted by an information booth set up by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). UPDATES ON HAF PROJECTS

¡§The Coffin¡¨ (Winner of Hubert Bals Fund Award in HAF 2005), directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham and featuring Karen Mok and Ananda Everingham, was just launched in Thailand, and became Thailand box office No. 1 in the first week.

Bong Joon-ho¡¦s ¡§Mother¡¨ (HAF 2008), starring Won Bin and Kim Hae-ja, is bought by Japanese distributor Bitters End. The film is currently in production, and is scheduled to be released in 2009.

Ann Hui¡¦s ¡§Night and Fog¡¨ (previously titled ¡§At the World¡¦s End¡¨, HAF 2005) and Ho Yuhang¡¦s ¡§At The End of Daybreak¡¨(HAF 2007) has wrapped its shooting earlier and is currently in post-production.

Hong Kong and Japan have long been close partners on the film and entertainment industry. Taking the opportunity of CoFesta, the comprehensive content festival held in Tokyo in October, HKTDC has organised a 4-day delegation to further promote co-production and co-venture opportunities between the two economies.

Over 30 film professionals joined the HKTDC delegation, attending a variety of activities such as market visit to TIFFCOM, company visit to Sony & NHK lab, official networking events of TIFFCOM and many more.

HKTDC also organised a seminar on "Collaboration Opportunities between Hong Kong and Japan" on 22nd October, 2008 attended by around 180 industry people, followed by a networking reception at which business matching between Hong Kong and Japanese attendees was facilitated by HKTDC staff onsite.

MIPCOM, the world¡¦s largest content market for all media forms, took place at Cannes from 13th to 17th October, 2008! Eight Hong Kong companies showcased their latest products at the Hong Kong Pavilion. Over 13,500 MIPCOM participants visited the show which represents an 1.6% increase from the previous year. The Hong Kong Pavilion was conveniently located in the exhibition hall and the delegation comprised of the following companies:
