THE EAGERLY AWAITED WONG KAR WAI¡¦S

The 2008 Festival de Cannes (May 14 to 25), will again spotlight Hong Kong cinema. Acclaimed Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai¡¦s "Ashes of Time Redux"¡V the reworked version of his sole martial arts film to date, starring the late Leslie Cheung ¡V is set to premiere at this prestigious film festival for a special screening.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) alumni "Part Ocean, Part Flame"directed by Liu Feng-dou, produced by and starring famed Hong Kong actor Simon Yam, will be screened in the Un Certain Regard section. Other Greater China films in this year¡¦s Cannes official selection include: Jia Zhangke's "24 City"(Chinese Mainland), the only Chinese film in the official competition line up, as well as Chung Mong-Hong's "Parking"(Taiwan), screening in Un Certain Regard.

HONG KONG PAVILION AT INTERNATIONAL VILLAGE, CANNES

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will once again lead the Hong Kong Pavilion at the International Village for the Marchˆm du Film 2008, the film market to be held concurrently with the Festival de Cannes.

The Hong Kong Pavilion will operate as a business support centre, with services available to Hong Kong citizens, staff of Hong Kong entertainment companies, accompanied overseas guests, and Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) filmmakers. HAF ALUMNI COMPETES FOR THE PALME D¡¦OR AT CANNES 2008

The lineup of the 61st Cannes Film Festival further reflected that the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) is a pivotal co-production market for Asian films. In addition to Liu Feng-dou¡¦s "Part Ocean, Part Flame" (the 4th HAF Project), there are three more HAF alumni being selected for screening in this year¡¦s Festival de Cannes, and one of them is competing for the Palme d¡¦Or with high profile films.

The Palme d¡¦Or competitor is Filipino director Brillante Mendoza¡¦s "Serbis", one of the projects selected for the 6th HAF in March 2008. And, screening out-of-competition alongside Steven Spielberg¡¦s "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"is another HAF alumni, from the 5th edition, Kim Jee-woon¡¦s "The Good, The Bad, The Weird"starring three of Korea¡¦s hottest leading men, Lee Byung-hun, Song Kang-ho, and Jung Woo-sung.

Like "Part Ocean, Part Flame", "Tokyo Sonata"(the 5th HAF Project) by Kurosawa Kiyoshi will also be screened in the Un Certain Regard sidebar.

Having concluded its 6th edition, the HAF has increasingly become an important film financing platform for world-renowned, as well as up-and-coming, filmmakers in the region.
