HONG KONG NIGHT AT PARIS CINÉMA
This year's Paris Cinema International Film Festival (PCIFF) brought an extensive programme – Hong Kong in Focus, screening over 80 Hong Kong films to pay tribute to Hong Kong in celebration of her diverse and ever-evolving cinema. Thanks to the exceptional collaboration between PCIFF and the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), it was the first time such an eclectic selection of Hong Kong films ever shown in the French capital.
One of the most dazzling events in the programme was the "Hong Kong Night", a cocktail reception took place at Shangri-La Hotel Paris on 3 July 2012. As delegates of the Hong Kong host organizations, Mr Jack So, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Hong Kong Film Development Council (HKFDC), Mr Wilfred Wong, Chairman of HKIFFS, Ms Mary Chow, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union (HKETO) and Peter Lam, Chairman and CEO of Media Asia, were present at the event.
Renowned auteur Johnnie To, veteran choreographer Yuen Wo Ping, highly acclaimed young director Heiward Mak, famous actor Lau Ching Wan, and Jessey Tsang, Best New Director of 31st Hong Kong Film Awards were at the event to represent the Hong Kong film industry along with many promising new talents including Fresh Wave directors Wong Chun, Leung Chung-man, Lai Yan-chi and Wong Wai-kit, whose films were selected for screening.
Ran from 29 June to 10 July, the programme received financial support from CreateHK, Film Development Fund and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels.
Hong Kong cinema's strong presence was further highlighted at PCIFF when Ann Hui's multiple award-winning feature "A Simple Life" received the Audience Award and the Students Award there, adding yet another two accolades to its track record of success.
