More than 130 film industry players enjoyed an exhilarated reception on 3 September 2010, celebrating Hong Kong's strong presence at this year's Venice Film Festival.
The reception was co-organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Hong Kong Film Development Council (HKFDC), and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels, with Ms WONG Yuet-wah, Deputy Representative of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels, Mr Jack SO, Chairman of HKTDC and HKFDC, and Mr John WOO as the guests-of-honour.
On that day, our beloved director John WOO was presented with the "Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement" and his latest production "Reign of Assassins" thrilled the international audience in its world premiere.
The 67th Venice Film Festival took place from 1 to 11 September 2010. TSUI Hark's "Detective Dee and the Mystery of Phantom Flame" was screened in competition for the Golden Lion. Andrew LAU's "Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen" was one of the opening films. Stanley KWAN was nominated as the only Chinese member of the Festival's International Jury and his Shanghai-set youth film "Showtime" also showcased out-of-competition. Once again, Hong Kong cinema's strong presence was highlighted in this significant film event.
