MAXIMISE YOUR EXPOSURE AT CANNES 2010
photoMarchˆm du Film, to be held concurrently with the 63rd Cannes Film Festival 12 to 23 May 2010, is an invaluable platform to showcase the strengths of Hong Kong¡¦s film & entertainment-related industries. Again, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will organise the Hong Kong Pavilion at Marchˆm du Film. Five Hong Kong companies will exhibit their latest film projects under the Hong Kong Pavilion at Riviera.

A Hong Kong business support centre will also be set-up at the International Village. The centre will be opened to all participants from Hong Kong as well as their accompanied guests. Free internet, printing service and meeting venue will be available on-site.

FILMART HIGHLIGHTS HONG KONG AS ASIA'S CONTENT HUB

photoThanks to all the guests for their strong supports, 2010 has proven to be another record setting year for Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART). More than 540 exhibitors from 29 countries and regions and nearly 5,000 visitors from 51 countries and regions attended FILMART 2010.

According to an independent survey of exhibitors and buyers attending FILMART 2010, 74% of the respondents agreed that Hong Kong is a major Asian content production, distribution, trading and film-financing centre. Over 80% suggested that Hong Kong is the centre from which to explore co-production opportunities with the Chinese Mainland. 64% agreed that Hong Kong is the hub for buying and selling Mainland film and TV dramas. The respondents also pointed out that Hong Kong's strengths include a strong Asian distribution network, creative talent, world-class industry events, state-of-the-art technology, high production values and protection of intellectual property.

At this year's FILMART, Hong Kong's role as the content hub of Asia was promoted by more than 260 film screenings and over 60 seminars and networking sessions. A series of thematic conferences were also launched, including: "Europe/Asia: A New Era for TV and Film Cooperation"; and "The New Wave of Computer-Generated Animation Films: Can Independents Compete".

Other highlights include the Asian Side of the Doc (ASD), sponsored by the European Union (Media International). More than 150 senior executives in the TV, film and new media fields from Europe, North America and Asia has taken part in the inaugural ASD on pre-viewing the 25 selected documentary projects.

HENRY TANG HELPED OPEN ENTERTAINMENT EXPO HONG KONG

The opening ceremony of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 22nd March 2010 was packed with international entertainment industry players, celebrities and journalists.

Speaking at the ceremony, Henry Tang, Chief Secretary for Administration, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, mentioned that the Expo "has become a significant event for the Asian entertainment business" since its launch in 2005. He also pointed out that Hong Kong films won 52 awards in film festivals and competitions around the world in 2009 and "most recently, the Hong Kong-produced film 'Echoes of the Rainbow' won the Crystal Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival".

Mr Tang added that Hong Kong's recent film success has been "the result of hard work, creativity and innovation of Hong Kong talent."

Also taking part in the opening ceremony were Jack So, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Film Development Council (HKFDC), Tong Gang, Director of the Film Bureau, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), China, and Tony Leung, Hong Kong Entertainment Ambassador.

Past HAF projects shine at the 4th Asian Film Awards

The 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA) marks the outstanding achievements from past HAF projects! This year, six films from previous years receives recognition, including Mother (HAF 2008) for Best Film, Best Actresses and Best Screenwriter; Thirst (HAF 2008) for Best Visual Effects; Bodyguards and Assassins (HAF 2003) for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor; At the End of Daybreak (HAF 2007) for Best Newcomer and Best Supporting Actress; Karaoke (HAF 2008) for Best Editor; and City of Life and Death (HAF 2005) for Best Director and Best Cinematographer.

The 8th HAF had been a huge success, with a 10% increase in pre-registered film financiers from Mainland China, and the organizers also confirmed over 500 appointments ¡V an approximate 10% increase in last year ¡V to facilitate co-production ventures between top investors, producers and distributors with film projects from Asia. Five awards were giving to outstanding projects, totally approximately $600,000 HKD.
