HAF CALLS FOR PROJECT ENTRIES

With a leading track record of bringing projects to completion, the Hong Kong ¡V Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) is widely recognised as one of the most important film financing hub in Asia. The HAF 2010 is calling for Project Entries from 15 September 2009 to 31 October 2009.

The details are as follows:

Selection Criteria

1. Feature film project* from Asia with an Asian director and/or Asian producer attached
2. With a high potential of being released and a potential market
3. With both artistic and commercial qualities
4. One project only from each director
5. In all stages of production

* Project will NOT be considered if already featured in other project markets.

Show the world - HAF as Leading Film-Financing Hub in Asia

Many HAF alumni projects are critically acclaimed and achieve box office triumph. Recent success stories include: Kinatay by Brillante Mendoza (aka The Execution of P) being awarded as Best Director of Cannes International Film Festival 2009, BAK-JWI (aka Thirst, originally titled Untitled Park) by Park Chan-wook having won the Jury Prize Ex-aequo of Cannes International Film Festival 2009, Mother by Bong Joon-ho and Karaoke by Chris Chong Chan-fui being screened in the Un Certain Regard and Directors¡¦ Fortnight of Cannes 2009 respectively.

From the commercial perspective, The Good, the Bad, the Weird by Kim Jee-woon reached No. 1 on the box office chart of South Korea and the City of Life and Death by Lu Chuan became a blockbuster hit in the Chinese mainland in 2008.

Hong Kong Presence in TIFFCOM

In the upcoming TIFFCOM (the film market in Tokyo in October), HKTDC will organise an industry-sharing seminar followed by a networking cocktail reception in the afternoon of 20 October. The seminar and cocktail reception will be opened to all industry players who are interested in exploring the Hong Kong¡¦s China advantage for tapping into the huge Chinese mainland entertainment market. Moreover, a Hong Kong title, "The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name" has been selected as one of the 25 official projects of in the 5th edition of Tokyo Project Gathering (TPG) which will be held concurrently with TIFFCOM. This film will be produced by Pang Ho-Cheung, Subi Liang and to be helmed by the up and coming Hong Kong director Heiward Mak.
OFFCIAL LAUNCH OF 15th ifva

Guests including Pang Ho-cheung, Derek Kwok Chi-kin, Gordon Lam Ka-tung, JJ Jia, O Sing-pui and Clement Cheung Sze-kit kicked off the 15th Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (ifva) on 4 September 2009 at Hong Kong Arts Centre, followed by showing three winning works of the past ifva competition: Vicky Wong Wai-kit¡¦s Variable, George Wong Cheuk-hin¡¦s The Chronicle of a Drawing; the Footprints of Time, and Elizabeth Law Sau-san¡¦s Sleeping Culture of Tuen Mun. They all have garnered various awards at various local and overseas film festivals.

Presented by the Hong Kong Arts Centre and sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the ifva is going to launch a series of programmes and events between September 2009 and March 2010. Programmes include ifva¡¦s 15th Anniversary Touring Showcase, which brings ifva award-winning works touring around the world; ifva shorts@bc displays the award-winning works in mainstream movie theatre; ifva+ preview showcases new works by ifva¡¦s alumni and juries. Returning specials include ifva+, ifva greenlab, school tours and community workshops, not to mention the competition ¡V the best way to start a career in creative industry.

The works of the finalists and award winners will be showcased in the ifva festival and the 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival in March 2010. ifva will also steer a path for the gold award winners of its Open and Animation categories to take part in renowned film festivals in Europe by showing their award-winning works.

The 15th ifva is now calling for application. Entries to the Open category, Youth category, Animation category, Asian New Force and the Interactive Media category will be accepted until 13 November 2009.
