A series of seminars and special events are scheduled to take place during this year¡¦s FILMART and HAF to facilitate industry exchanges. The Digital Entertainment World Opening Forum on 22 March is one of the highlights for international animation industry players to meet and share new insights.

HAS returns to offer buyers the best opportunity to catch up with all the latest and best productions from Asia. Launched by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) at the Hong Kong FILMART in 2004, HAS is an initiative to support young society and companies by providing them with market access. The expanded HAS this year features a new section called Chinese Renaissance with 15 Chinese titles.

HAS will see the latest works from Hong Kong filmmakers, such as Derek Kwok's The Pye-Dog, and world premieres of Asia's upcoming films, such as Things We Do When We Fall in Love by Malaysian director James Lee. You can be the first in Asia to see the best of Asian cinema on the festival circuit, with HAS hosting the Asian premieres of many films, including Wang Quanan's Tuya's Marriage, which recently won the Golden Bear for Best Film and the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the Berlinale, and Spider Lilies by Taiwanese director Zero Chou, winner of the Teddy Award for Best feature film at the Berlinale.

Some of the latest works of HAF filmmakers featuring at HAS, include: Indonesian director Nia Dinata¡¦s HAF 2005 project Love for Share, which was chosen as Indonesia¡¦s entry in best foreign film for this year¡¦s Oscars, Kumakiri Kazuyoshi¡¦s HAF 2006 project Freesia, and Mainland Chinese director Zhang Yang¡¦s HAF 2006 project Getting Home (previously known as Air), which was selected to participate in this year¡¦s Berlinale.

HAS's Chinese Renaissance will also be screening HAF 2006 filmmaker Fruit Chan's latest film Xian Story. The HAF 2007 Chinese mainland directors Lu Le's Thirteen Princess Tree and Ying Liang's The Other Half will feature in both HAS and HKIFF.

Two awards to be given to two of the 25 selected HAF projects, one from Hong Kong and one outside of Hong Kong. This Award is based on the creativity of the synopses. To be selected by the HAF Reading Committee.

TECHNICOLOR THAILAND AWARDS presented by Technicolor Thailand Limited

Service award value: Two awards of USD13,000 (approx. HKD100,000) each
Two value in-kind awards to be given to project(s) (i) with the highest potential for co-financing (ii) of which the directors have directed at least one film, TV commercial, documentary or TV program & (iii) which is willing to undertake post-production in Thailand. To be selected by representatives of Technicolor Thailand Limited.

Hong Kong Cyberport Awards presented by the Digital Media Centre (DMC) of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Co. Ltd.

Service award value: Two awards of HKD100,000 each
Two value in-kind awards to be given to project(s) with the most imaginative in both narrative and technical excellence to be selected by representatives of the Hong Kong Cyberport.

On 13 February, HKTDC hosted a Hong Kong Cocktail Reception at the Berlinale 2007. Over 300 international film professionals and media representatives attended the reception at the Kaisersaal, where Guest of Honour Mr. Joseph Wong, Hong Kong¡¦s Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, introduced the first Asian Film Awards (AFA).

The inaugural AFA presentation will take place on 20 March, alongside the gala opening of the third Entertainment Expo Hong Kong. Ms Nansun Shi, Berlinale jury member, was on stage after the screening of the trailer and unveiled the trophy for the award.

Mr. Alan Wong, HKTDC's deputy executive director, acclaimed Korean director Mr. Park Chan-wook, mainland Chinese director Zhang Yang, Hong Kong actress Ms. Isabella Leong and Taiwanese artist Ms. Rainie Yeung, La Biennale de Venezia Director and AFA jury member Mr. Marco Mueller, and Mr. Jacob Wong, Curator of HKIFF, were amongst the guests at the reception.
