Zhongguancun Pay Survey

According to sources from the Beijing municipal bureau of statistics, the latest human resources survey at the Zhongguancun Science Park indicates that the per capita annual salary of hi-tech professionals last year reached Rmb61,900, which was at least three times higher than those in traditional sectors.

In 2002, the aggregate remuneration for the workforce at Zhongguancun amounted to Rmb24,875 million. The breakdown was Rmb20,888 million for local employees, Rmb358 million for expatriates and employees from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and Rmb2,763 million for staff seconded from their original work units.

The survey also reveals that career prospect and remuneration package are two major concerns of hi-tech professionals. In light of this, companies in the park offer employees such fringe benefits as meals, housing allowances and a host of insurance covers on top of highly competitive salaries. Packages such as these are good incentives to entice more outstanding employees to perform their best, which in turn boosts the development of the park.
