Mr.
Jack So Chak Kwong, assumed the Chairmanship of
the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) on 1
October 2007. The Council plans and supervises the HKTDC's
global operations, services and promotional activities
through an office network covering more than 40 cities.
Mr.
So began his career with the Hong Kong Government and
joined the private sector in 1978, having held various
senior positions in stockbroking, banking and property
development. He served as Executive Director of the
Hong Kong Trade Development Council from 1985 to 1992.
He was Chairman and Chief Executive of the Mass Transit
Railway Corporation Limited from 1995 to 2003. He then
became Deputy Chairman and Group Managing Director of
PCCW from 2003 to 2007. Mr. So also served on the Board
of HSBC from 2000 to 2007.
Effective
2 January 2008, Mr. So became the Vice Chairman of Credit-Suisse
(Greater China). He is also a non-executive Director
of American International Assurance Company Limited
and Cathay Pacific Airways Limited.
Mr.
So was appointed by the HKSAR Government as Chairman
of the Film Development Council and Member of the Commission
on Strategic Development. He also sits on a number of
other committees, including The University of Hong Kong
Council and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society Board
of Governors.
Since
2008, Mr. So was appointed Member of the Chinese People's
Political Consultative Conference and he is also a member
of the International Business Leader Advisory Council
for the Mayor of Beijing.
